Introduction: Sixth Grade Class of high end students with no behavior plans and one disabled student

Content: Patterning and shapes in nature for content of principles and elements of art. This lesson ties into Social Studies and the WWII period.

Objective: Given the nose art designs from the webquest students will be able to show the use of a pattern from shapes in nature by drawing one of their own on a template for a WWII plane.

Materials: Student lab equipped with a G3 on line for each student, Claris Draw and a printer.

Procedures:

Introduce lesson by tying in history of war that has been studied in social studies compared to art studied from noseart period. Point out the variety of art that has evolved. A/P Ask students to point out which designs make use of patterning and which do not.

Teacher will have hand made samples ready for students to see. Questions will follow regarding types of artwork . A/P Hands down this question is for all and I will be calling randomlyWhat point of view is the artist trying to show.

 

Then teacher will click on a draw document and have all the students start with her. Step by step they will draw a shape and repeat it to fill their templates.

Closure: Look at your picture and point to the pattern tell how it enhances the overall look of the plane.

Assessment: Hearing the students responses to each other is a way. The other way is reviewing their work as it progresses and when complete.
