Lesson Plan: Gargoyles

Introduction: Sixth grade medium range with no disabilities and three students on behavior plans and meds.

Content: Use of materials and mediums. Also work with shape in 3 dimension.. This lesson is able to tie into social studies and the gothic period especially the architecture of the time.

Objective: Given the architecture of Notre Dame and information, photographs and artwork of other gothic cathedrals from web students will be able to see the design and use of gargoyles and make one of their own.

Materials: Computer printouts of artwork and information on gargoyles, drawings of Notre Dame, sketch paper, pencil, model magic, watercolor and brushes

Procedures:

Introduce lesson by tying in medieval social studies Show artwork and printout. A/P Ask which ones are familiar shapes.

Teacher will have hand made samples ready for students to see.Teacher will demonstrate how to work in model magic A/P Students will see a place where simple shape turns into face or feature and practice making their own..

Then teacher will start showing a demonstration of how to begin with simple shapes and add on.

Students will sketch a grotesque face and then start in model magic.

Closure: Find a place on your neighbor's face that uses a simple shape .

Assessment: Hearing the students responses to each other is one way. The other way is reviewing their work as it progresses and when complete.
