Lesson Plan Drawing

Rosemary Grala

Introduction: Sixth Grade Class of high end students with one student on behavior plan, and one disabled student

Content: Line perspective and space as part of the content for elements of art. This lesson ties into Social Studies and the renaissance period where perspective became very useful to western European artists.

Objective: Given the demonstration by olearz web sight students will be able to understand the use of a diagonal line in relationship to a horizontal and vertical line on a plane in a perspective drawing.

Materials: Student lab equipped with a G3 on line for each student, Claris Draw and a printer.

Procedures:

Introduce lesson by tying in art that has been studied in social studies compared to art studied from gothic period. Point out the depth that has evolved. Ask students which parts of a picture look like they are going back.

Teacher will have hand made samples ready for students to see. Questions will follow regarding which lines are going back in space. A/P Hands down this question is for all and I will be calling randomly. How does this make the picture have depth?

Then teacher will start showing the step by step perspective drawing of a room.

Next teacher will click on a draw document and have all the students start with her. Step by step they will draw a room in one point perspective.

Students will open a new draw document and follow the teacher's directions for drawing the plane, the diagonal, horizontal and vertical lines in the room.

Closure: Look at your picture and point to a line that goes back in space and show your neighbor. Tell your neighbor why it looks so.

Assessment: Hearing the students responses to each other is a way. The other way is reviewing their work as it progresses and when complete.

Sight: www.olejarz.com/arted/perspective/intro3.html

This sight includes a step by step demonstration of drawing a room in perspective. Rather than waiting for me to draw the room on the chalkboard the students see it done quickly at close range. Then repeated slowly.
